The concept of bundled rods is not new — many have copied the original design of 19 dowels formed into a hexagonal shape. Construction methods may vary, but good response and bounce seem to be missing in their attempts to recreate this particular mousetrap.
To achieve a bundled rod sound with drumstick-like bounce, we inserted an internal centre dowel — keeping the stick perfectly round in diameter. In the grip area, we double-bundled the dowels: the first wrap extends further down the shaft to protect the dowels from impact, while the outer textured grip adds stiffness and full gripping power. We then cross-cut the centre dowel at the 40mm mark from the playing end — allowing it to compress and spring back in the split zone.
The result? The sonic character of a bundled rod with significantly more rebound and the feel and response of a solid drumstick.
Construction: 12 dowels in a hexagonal shape with internal 3/8" diameter centre dowel
Grip: Double-bundled — extended inner wrap for impact protection, textured outer grip for stiffness and control
